Denial is the refusal of anything to acknowledge the existence or severity of unpleasant external realities or thoughts and feelings. Denial is a distortion technique which directly affects a person’s thinking.

Denial is an integral part of the disease of alcoholism and a major hindrance to recovery. It is the initial stage when a person is showing least interest in his/her recovery and it leads to adverse consequences. In reality we all face denial phase in different forms.

For Sigmund Freud; denial was a defense against external realities that threaten the ego, and in recent times many psychologists would argue that it can be a protective defense in the face of unbearable and shocking news; like a cancer diagnosis. Various assumptions we develop in our cognitions which make us resentful without any obvious reason we make. For instance: we worried on small things; like: we or people we love could die, the things we have will snatched by someone, I am not worthy enough to tolerate things.Denial-3

Life is unpredictable this is the most powerful truth but we have to face many things and we usually use denial that helps us to cope and focus on what we must do in order to survive. On the other hand, denial creates many difficulties and harms for us when it causes us to ignore problems this will only increase stresses, fatigue, deep down depression and futuristic harmful events that we have created by our own negligence.
