Level and magnitude of success vary person to person and culture to culture. In materialistic societies; money has been generally accepted as the measure of success. The more money a person has, the more successful he or she is assumed to be. Not all the cultures accept this measuring method. Money is really an index of success. For some of us, money is vital, for others having considerable leisure time to spend is of prime importance.
Success in broader perspective based on four fundamental factors. These factors are also interdependent in nature.
- Self Awareness
- Self Discipline
- Self Motivation
- Self Direction
Without self-awareness, people are insensitive to their behavior, thus they are unable to change the ways which may be beneficial for them. With increased awareness of their behavior and its effects on other people, individuals are more likely to be able to discipline themselves. Similarly with growing self-discipline they motivate themselves to set and achieve goals that are important. Having goals in life is basically self-direction.
Weak decision and poor problem solving strategies are the factors which astray us from the path of success. To solve problems and make successful decisions it is necessary to have access to appropriate information. This is very simple in terms of listening. Often is not. Sometimes people find it really difficult about what information they actually need to make their decisions. On other occasions, people may know what they know but do not adopt proper problem solving strategies. Thus is usually because we assume that other people use language same as we do. This assumption that we all define the same words in the same way can be lethal to clear understanding. Eradicate this assumption through properly convey your message to others.
Success is not a private right. It is open to all individuals. It comes only by understanding the laws and factors behind it. Once we understand the process it will be very easy for us to build a life of our own. Synergizing of different factors brought success in individual’s life. Do not restrict success to one factor. Try to see things in magnified perspective. Never underestimate of devalue anything. Nature is in balance and wants human to act in the same way.
“Commitment is a big part of what I am and what I believe. How committed are you to winning? How committed are you to being a good friend? To being trustworthy? To being successful? How committed are you to being a good father, a good teammate, a good role model? There's that moment every morning when you look in the mirror: Are you committed, or are you not”?
